Each stick each stone can surely break your bone

But child with flimsy armor cannot protect

Her fragile youthful spirit from spoken tone

His sacrifice, the dragon will collect.

He turns his head and beady eyes are fierce

The flames shoot forth as daggers taking aim

The little ego permanently pierced

And in its place, a reservoir of shame.

He slinks and slithers and lurks, to her unseen

'Til pouncing unexpectedly arrives

Then chaos reigns as closing darkness screams

Words calmly hissed through double razor knives.

Yet there comes a time when even monsters die

And though words haunt, I let sleeping dragons lie.
